Ancillary

These three albums; Black Grape - It's Great When You're Straight Yeah
Happy Mondays - Pills, Thrills and Bellyaches
Butthole Surfers - Locust Abortion Technician
We found these very inspirational for our own album cover for the digipak of our band 'Power Rangers Rendezvouz'. The vibrant colours are something we included throughout the video, so we also wanted to use them within our digipak as it reflects the style and genre of our band. On the Butthole Surfers album cover, the use of clowns is also something which we wanted to incorporate in our digipak, especially because of our album name 'The Old School Hate Clowns'.

Ancillary Poster Inspiration

I found this two pictures, from Marvel comics, great inspiration for mine and Emma's poster to advertise our band. I drew a picture, combining elements from both of these posters, including the characters and damaged buildings. We then decided to add a picture of Steve to show our band, but we felt it didn't fit in with the picture, so instead we put lots of pictures of him in the windows of the building, so our band is still incorporated into the poster.

Front Cover

This is mine and Abbi's CD front cover. The way that we did this is by firstly thinking of words that are commonly thought of within the magazine "world" words like; Pop, Bang, Crash, Boom and Wham. We wanted a pop art effect behind the picture, so using the fade tool along side the contrast, I edited the brightness of the text. Then using an effect, i made the picture more saturated, this also enabled that Steve stood out more against the background.

To make Steve stand out even more, I edited the colour and contrast on him making him more of a yellow, unrealistic tone but making sure it stood out. We were then told by Mr Nicole, to make aspects of Steve stand out, for example his watch. So I highlighted his watch, the apples and the while around his mouth to be brightened to stand out more, this gave the picture a more cartooned effect, which is what Abbi and I were aiming for.

Yes, I know I can't draw.

I WILL DO THIS ON A POWERPOINT TO MAKE IT PRETTIFUL :)

So, as Abbi has previously mentioned, we have done a comic strip style for our C.D case. Wow? Yes.
However, neither of us do art, which was a little bit of a set back but ahh well, anyone can draw when they put their minds to it, right? We'll let you decide. (Not all of them are done yet, so this is just the finished few.)
So i went and drew some pretty piccies for you all :)
This is where our super hero, Steve (he wishes) will start off, saying "What's this?!? A beautiful lady in trouble?!" He'll be flying off towards Earth to save her. How sweet. I thought the quote would be funny for our CD as all the women the super heros save are pretty, which is a bit stink of the ugly ones.
This is where our super hero is heading off to next, in order to save her lady. Mr Ford said that he likes this picture, as he thinks it looks Indie and fits well within our genre, also having these pictures in black and white, while having Steve still in his bright colours, making him stand out more.
This drawing is my favorite one, as it's really busy and hasn't got any blank areas. I also feel that it's the kind of drawing that you expect to see within a comic book, typical street which looks like it never ends and it's empty and over crowded with buildings.

When showing Mr Ford, he said that Abbi and I should think of a way to end our comic strip, as introducing the woman may leave our audience/ buyers where the super hero ends up and does he ever find the lady in trouble.
So, we decided that we need to add two more pictures in. We came up with the idea of having the super hero at home, and suddenly he has a "feeling" that something isn't right., we also intend to introduce our main character, by his band name of Power Rangers Rendezvous, to make it clear that this comic book inside of the CD is part of it, and their own comic :)
I will draw a comic back ground for this, and then photo shop this photo of him over the top... This is mainly for comical reasons, because of his man pout and the "thinking" pose. Also it will help connote to the audience what he is thinking. Which will be shown via text in a comic thinking bubble, also using small boxes in certain scenes to tell the story, as comic books do. The drawing I have done for this opening picture is off a very normal kitchen, which again adds comical factors as he's a super hero with a normal everyday house... no robots or play boy ladies. Nothing.

The last scene, will be when Steve finds the lady in trouble. We wanted her to be a comic character, to fit with the back ground... this gave me the idea of changing our album name of "The Old School Hate Clowns" to "Problems With Reality" but, as Abbi pointed out, we would of done the clown make up for nothing, and we both still like The Old School Hate Clowns. Anyways, to carry on about the lady. I think for the background I'm going to draw a factory layout, because that seems to be the typical place for women to get taken to in comic books. (still got to draw that out, in black and white again) Here is the woman i drew. And i know she's not pretty... as i said earlier i cant draw. And i was going to add colour to her, as this would help make her stand out for the background, but it turns out the peach skin colour is actually orange! And we don't want to set a bad example for young girls do we?! Also, as my sister said, "HA! She looks like something out of Planets Of The Apes" Now that is encouragement.
So here she is, the not so pretty, monkey features gothic looking lady he risked his life for... Worth it? I think not. I would like to back up her lips, i looked at some other comic women, and their lips, boob and bums are HUGE!! So, i tried to adopt that with her lips :) The reason for her tear is because she's so happy to be saved, also the colour will help to tell her apart from the black and white back ground.
The way in which this picture will be laid out, is like i said with the comic strip in the back of the factory, but then we're going to have a side shot, which we took of Steve in it aswell. Which is why the ugly rat woman is facing that way...
We will then have the comic speach again, which Mr Ford said my hand writing was well suited to do comic writing... don't know if that's a compilment of an insult but hey ho. So here we'll have the lady saying "You save me" Or "You found me" both very cheesy but very comic book like. In the scene information, which i keep calling them "Stage directions" which makes Abbi giggle, it will say something along the lines of "And The Power Rangers Rendezvous saved the say, and the pretty lady" Ending happily ever after.

This part of the CD we intend to be on the inside, so the outside bit (front and back) are like the cover and back of a comic book.
We have done our front cover and have moved onto the back. All of them are comic book like :) They will be on the blog shortly. Exciting.

P.S while writing this i've been watching Spider Man, can't get much more comic than that ;)

Ancillary

I found these two famous comic book websites very useful for inspiration for mine and Emma's digipak. For the inside pages, I suggested that we make it look like a comic book strip as our front cover also has the comic book look and effect on it. We took pictures of Steve jumping into the snow, which would work well within this idea.
